Position Summary

At Stony Brook Medicine, a Systems Administrator is a valuable member of our team, who will provide Level 3 support for Windows and Linux Systems. The incumbent will be asked to assist in user management, share management, Data Center support, OS patching and troubleshooting of daily tickets.

Qualified candidates will possess outstanding communication skills while adhering to our high standard of excellence. They will be a team player with the ability to work independently. Multitasking skills are a must, the candidate much possess strong analytical skills as well.

Duties may include the following but are not limited to:

  • Creation and management of user accounts, home folders and network shares.

  • Provide timely response and follow-up for day-to-day Help Desk tickets and support issues.

  • Management and troubleshooting of Windows and Linux physical/virtual servers.

  • Asset Management for all Stony Brook Medicine supported servers.

  • Patch management for all Stony Brook Medicine Linux and Windows servers.

  • Implement and maintain antivirus solution that is the central point of all AV management for the organization.

  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of active components, resources, disk space and key processes.

  • Reviewing system and directory services logs.

  • Work with other engineers to upgrade current environment to more updated software (ie. Windows 2003 to 2012, RHEL 5 to 7)

  • Monitor nightly backups and assist in file and server level restores.

  • Provide Data Center Support including the scheduling of Electrical, HVAC and cleaning services.

  • Assist in the day-to-day management of the Data Center including server racking, new rack installs and keeping the DCIM product up to date.

Required Qualifications:

  • 2 years experience in systems administration.

  • 2 years experience in VMware, Active Directory and Windows/Linux OS Support.

  • 2 years experience with enterprise level ticketing system.

  • Excellent customer service and vendor management skills

  • Excellent analytical skills are essential for this job. The candidate must be able to troubleshoot application and hardware issues quickly by identifying sources of problems.

  • The candidate must be detail oriented and have strong organizational skills.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment are essential.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 or more years experience in systems administration.

  • 2 or more years experience in Office 365 Administration, Data Center Support and Asset Management.

  • Working knowledge of SAN and Server Virtualization.

  • Ability to write and/or edit scripts.
