Student Employment Specialist
Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of full time related work experience (i.e. career development, training). Proficiency with databases, spreadsheets, or related systems (i.e. query reporting). Experience with reporting, documentation, and/or presentation tools (i.e. Prezi, Microsoft PowerPoint, etc.). Experience conducting professional presentations.
Two (2) or more years of experience advising college student population, coaching faculty and staff regarding student recruiting. Recruitment/training of college student population. Significant presentation experience to a college/university population. Proficiency with corporate applicant tracking, advising, or career services databases.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Student Employment (SE) Specialist coordinates the campus-wide student employment program, whose goal is to make campus jobs meaningful learning and development experiences for all students. The Student Employment Specialist coaches and advises supervisors as to the development of their student employment strategy as a component of departmental staffing, development of job descriptions that are high-impact, learning & development focused, and the recruitment, hiring, training, and supervision of student employees, at the graduate and undergraduate levels. The SE Specialist creates & delivers the campus-wide training curriculum for onboarding new student employees, with a mix of F2F, webinar, and online recordings. A strong candidate will possess excellent communications skills with a strong ability to multi-task and prioritize workload. The ability to be organized, detail oriented, capable of following through and working independently is highly preferred.
Work with campus departments to conceptualize high-impact student employment positions as a part of departmental strategic staffing as well as a training and professional development opportunity for students.
Liaise with the Office of Financial Aid for FWS assignments and with Human Resource Services for employment verification, time-sheets, and payroll.
Coach supervisors in the development of high-impact student appropriate job descriptions and how to recruit, interview, select, orient, train, supervise, and evaluate student employees.
Create and deliver the new student employee training curriculum, and coordinate with subject matter experts, training specialists, and instructional designers to identify training gaps and create training resources that can be delivered using F2F and web-delivery formats, leveraging technology for maximum access and retention of material.
Develop and maintain calendar of offerings, including scheduling and promotion, for student employee sessions. Monitor registration, tracking attendance, generate reports.
Provide ongoing support for campus supervisors in implementing developmental and learning opportunities within the campus work environment.
Design, develop, and deliver training modules for students via F2F and online methods, relative to workplace etiquette for success in on-campus student employment positions.
Coach students individually and in groups about the job search process, use of the Handshake recruitment system, reviewing application materials, such as resume, etc., and conducting practice interviews with feedback.
Review, and edit on-campus job & internship opportunities posted in Handshake (500 ).
Coordinate online and F2F job fairs for the on-campus student employment program.
Develop standardized and customized reporting of student employment collectively, regardless of class level, funding source, or position location.
Maintain and update all electronic and paper forms, handbooks and resources for students and supervisors.
Provide support for Handshake system maintenance and customizations.
Career Center Event support, Job fair support, etc.
Other duties as assigned based on departmental priorities.
This is a full time appointment.Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption. Weekend work may be required.
