Research Technician III
Req uired Qualifications: (As evidenced by an attached resume)
Associates degree (equivalent) or higher with a concentration in biology or related field.Two year's of full-time experience in a cell/molecular biology research lab setting.Experience localizing proteins in tissue sections or embryos using immunohistochemical and immunofluorescence staining.Experience withlight and fluorescent microscopy and digital imaging.
Experience embedding and sectioning tissues (paraffin, cryo, and/or vibratome).Experience with confocal microscopy or similar.Experience analyzing gene expression using in situ hybridization and/or quantitative RT-PCR.Experience with mouse husbandry, euthanasia, and anesthesia procedures.
Brief Description of Duties :
Under direction of the PI,the Research Technician III willassist with experiments focused on understanding how defects in glycosylation lead to birth defects in brain, skeleton, eye (anterior chamber defects). The primary focus will be determining whether the mutations affect protein trafficking and/or alter extracellular matrix composition/properties during organ development. The successful incumbent must have strongorganizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail. The degree to which incumbent has experience with the design, implementation, and troubleshooting of experiments.Experience successfully working as well as part of a team.Outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.Meticulous record keeping.
Working under general supervision , assist in research program to localize proteins and RNA in sectioned adult and embryonic tissues or by Western analysis and to localize and quantitate mRNA in whole mount or sectioned embryos and adult tissues.
Compile scientific data/results from highly technical experiments and report to PI.Participate in weekly meetings with co-PI lab.
Assist with mouse Husbandry andlab maintenance and organization.
TrainGraduate and Undergraduate students/trainees in cell and molecular biology techniques.
Other duties or projects as assigned.
