Nursing Informatics Specialist
The NursingInformatics Specialist (NIS) is a valuable member of the Long Island StateVeterans Home’s clinical team who facilitates the development and integrationof all information and communication technology systems to support theprovision of resident care and care outcomes. The NIS will be project focused and have a strong understanding of theclinical information system requirements. It will be the responsibility of this position to plan, implement,upgrade or modify applications by identifying and understanding the end users’needs. Qualified candidates will demonstratesuperior communication and organizational skills while adhering to our highstandard of excellence through the LISVH mission, values and code of conduct. TheNIS will support all clinical staff related to our clinical information systems.Underthe direction of the Director of Nursing, the duties of the NIS may include butis not limited to the following:
Collaborateswith Nursing Administration and other departments in the development of thestandards of practice for effective operations of the clinical documentationsystems as wells as other informational systems related to clinical practiceand resident care.
Establishesguidelines for documentation in the Electronic Medical Record, with a focus onstandardization and regulatory requirements.
Defineprocesses and workflow, both current and future.
Establishesand updates policies and procedures for each department related to ElectronicMedical Record as well as other technology used in the clinical areas.
Participatesand at times facilitates the evaluation and selection of communication andinformation technology to be used in the clinical departments.
Determinesthe end user requirements and customize functionality, as able, to meet theserequirements.
Accessibleto end users, the NIS will listen and respond to concerns and inquires in apositive and timely manner. Acts as the facilitatorbetween the end users and IT department.
Ensuresthat end users participate in the planning, development and implementation ofnew and updated technology.
Responsiblefor the coordination and management of a team of super users.
Collaborateswith the In-Service Education Coordinator to develop and carry out orientation,training, testing and ongoing competencies for their staff members related tothe Electronic Medical Record and other technology used in the clinicaldepartments.
Actsas a role model and a preceptor within his/her role for all staff and studentnurses.
Responsiblefor effective communications between nursing and other departments related toElectronic Medical Record and other technology related to clinical systems.
Participatesin the Quality Assurance Performance Improvement Program and analysis of datarelevant to the quality outcomes. Directs staff in performance improvementactivities that improve outcomes, satisfaction and enhances organizationalefficiency.
Mayparticipate in research or evaluation in a variety of informatics topics thatimpacts both caregivers and consumers.
Participatesin annual Department of Health and Veterans Administration Surveys, ensuringthe units are in compliance with all Federal and State regulations.
Bachelor’sDegree in Nursing , Current NYS RNLicense, Minimum of 3 years postlicense experience , Strongorganizational and communication skills (both oral and written) , Detail-oriented with the ability to prioritizeand multitask , Proficiency inMicrosoft Office Programs
Master’sDegree in Nursing Informatics or related field, Long Term Care experience,Geriatric or related experience, 1 year or more in a NIS position

The LISVH is a24/7 skilled nursing facility. As such, all positions are subject to changes inpass days and shifts as necessary to meet the operating needs of the facility.
