Nurse Practitioner - Clinical Instructor

Required Qualifications

Master's Degree in Nursing. New York State Certification as a Nurse Practitioner in Psychiatry. Current New York State Registered Nurse Licensure. Three years experience as a Nurse Practitioner, to include a minimum of two years of Psychiatry experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Clinical experience as a provider in an acute psychiatric setting and/or consultation and liaison psychiatry role. Teaching experience.

Responsibilities & Requirements

A clinician is needed to serve as Nurse Practitioner Psychiatrist in the Emergency Department at Stony Brook University. The Nurse Practitioner will conduct psychiatric evaluations/assessments, psychopharmacological and no-pharmacological interventions, and level-of care recommendations for individuals presenting in the Emergency Department units with psychiatric co-morbidity. The Nurse Practitioner will involve families and obtain collateral history as needed for accurate assessments. The Nurse Practitioner will collaborate with ED and CPEP physicians, nurses, social workers and counselors in screening, intervention, referrals to treatment and general discharge planning. The Clinical Instructor will also provide education to staff and trainees. Common conditions addressed may include but are not limited to delirium, behavioral symptoms associated with dementia, impairments in capacity for medical decision making, depression and anxiety, elevated suicide, and alcohol withdrawal and other substance misuse symptoms. The Clinical Instructor will also be responsible for facilitation/participation in research involving psychiatric inpatient treatment.

Special Notes

This is a non-tenure track position. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Anticipated Start Date: As soon as possible. Some nights and weekends may be required. To qualify for a senior faculty appointment, the candidate must meet the criteria established by the School of Medicine ( School of Medicine's Criteria for Appointment, Promotion and Tenure ).
